A LUXURY HOLIDAY LODGE AT CLIFF HOUSE HOLIDAY PARK
I was recommended Lodge 94 by a friend. We really enjoy the countryside and getting out and about and with an event I had approaching I wanted to vary my training up.
This destination is perfect for beach runs, woodland and heathland trail runs and invigorating cold water swimming made this destination feel perfect.
We were a little unsure what to expect when booking Lodge 94 at Cliff House Holiday Park but had been recommended and weren’t disappointed.
When we booked we had been told that Lodge 94 or as its also known ReVamp ReTreat had been recently Up Furbished (up furbished meaning refurbished with an ethos created around reusing where possible.) We understand it is the only one on the park designed this way. So we were quite excited about our trip!
Arrival
As we turned into Minsmere Road we started to feel that we had really hit true Suffolk Heath and Woodland and a slower way of life. The reception staff at Cliff House were very helpful and gave us our key code.
We were then directed to our Lodge, able to park right outside, it had ample parking for 2 or 3 cars. Outside the lodge seemed quiet and secluded.
The lodge’s interior definitely wasn’t anything we had imagined, with quirky details that we loved!
Open Plan Living & Kitchen Space
We found the kitchen home from home with everything we needed. We only cooked light meals but there seemed to be everything there if you would wish to cook yourself, including a microwave, dishwasher, electric oven and gas hob.
The living space was very spacious, with vaulted ceilings and a large corner sofa (Also used as a double sofa bed), dining table for 6 with a bench seat and a breakfast bar and stools.
The lodge was warm and heating was easy to use, we also loved the gas effect wood burner creating a really cosy touch to the interior. The Tv was wall mounted and provided many programmes through Free Sat.
Bedrooms
Bedroom One with Ensuite
The king size bed was very comfortable.
The first morning we sat up in bed and had a morning coffee watching the birds on a well positioned bird table. The second night we slept really well, so well, we nearly missed the 10am checkout!
This bedroom also has the following facilities:
- Wall mounted Tv with Free Sat.
- Ample hanging storage
- Iron and Board
- Hairdryer
- Plenty of boxed under bed storage for clothes.
- Hoover
Bedroom Two
With another Kingsize Bed this room is the bigger of the two, also having space for a cot if needed.
This bedroom also has the following facilities:
- Wall mounted Tv with Free Sat.
- Ample hanging storage
- Iron and Board
- Hairdryer
- Plenty of boxed under bed storage for clothes.
- Occasional chair
Family Bathroom
The bathroom is really unique. All the walls had been cladded with pallet boards creating a really cosy feel. Little details like the electric shaving socket being housed in a bread bin cupboard to the bath being clad with wood too!
The Garden
Outside the lodge there was a spacious decking leading to an enclosed garden with barbecue space and seating for 6 or more.
We found the garden a suntrap and quite sheltered definitely a suntrap to listen to the birds and the crashing waves of the sea.
Wi-Fi
There is no Wifi at the Lodge. However there is free Wifi at The 12 Lost Churches Bar and Restaurant adjacent to the Lodge.
If I am honest it was quite nice to disconnect from the world and have a social media free time.
Food & Drink
We packed food essentials but decided to have a Super Market Delivery on our arrival. (We chose Tesco but I did see a Waitrose and Sainsbury’s Van too!)
This is possible by pre-booking your delivery dates prior to your trip. They delivered it to our door which was really convenient.
Food Shopping and General Stores
There is a Shop near the reception of Cliff House Holiday Park, however due to Covid 19 it wasn’t open and we heard that it probably shouldn’t be relied upon.
The nearest village of Westleton which is a 5 minute drive away has a good General Store, with everything from Vegetables to birthday cards, and even offering a Post Office service.
Further back to the main road there is Emmerdale Farm Shop which is full of easy prep frozen food, a butcher and lots of veg and fruit. Definitely worth a look.
If you fancy eating out then there are some really good pubs alongside The 12 Lost Churches Restaurant.
The Eel’s Foot, The Ship at Dunwich, The White Horse and The Crown both at Westleton.
Travel
The drive to the lodge was an easy one. We travelled by car from Boxted and took just over an hour to get there.
Weather
We had some amazing weather, but as it is by the sea be prepared for changeable weather. Take some board games just in case.
Conclusion
This being our first stay in a lodge, we found it very comfortable and perfect for a base if you are walking, cycling or driving to visit the beautiful surrounding RSPB Minsmere and National Trust Dunwich area.
From £353 for a short break it was great value and we had a great 3 night stay.
Things to consider
- There are steep steps down to the beach from the Lodge, however if needed you can drive to Dunwich or Minsmere to walk directly on the beach and you will then have to pay parking charges
- If you take a dog(s) please keep them on leads and clear up after
- This area in Suffolk does get busy in peak times so advisable to book ahead of time as pubs and restaurants get very busy
- You can only book online for Monday- Friday or Friday- Mon increments
- E Bike hire is available from Velo Hire, who can deliver to the lodge for more information contact Charlie at Velo-Hire
