Alexander Pope Hotel Review

My little Sister has given birth to an absolutely gorgeous girl called Rose. As big Uncle I wanted to rush up to London to see my new niece and congratulate my sister!

The Alexander Pope hotel is just around the corner from my Sister’s flat and we had visited the restaurant only a couple of weeks ago for a Easter Sunday roast and were impressed with the food so decided we would try staying at the Alexander Pope hotel.

SUPERIOR DOUBLE ROOM

First impression of the room were great. It was spacious, light, clean and tidy.

However, as you look closer the furniture is looking like it has had better days and the walls could do with a lick of paint to cover the water stains and scuff marks. It looks like the room was well thought out when decorated but it feels like it might of been a few years ago.

The bed was really comfy and considering we forgot our own pillows I slept really well. My only gripe being the amount of light that comes through the curtains but I guess not many people like us stay in bed as late as we do, so if your an early bird this probably won’t matter.

The bathroom was really nice and had some super cool electric touch taps to control the flow and temperature. The shower was a really good size and had good power.

The room had a good selection of teas, Nespresso coffee machine and had a complimentary bottle of water.

It also had mini bar but we did not used it.

WIFI

I took a ton of photos and videos of my 7 day niece and the hotel wifi had no problem letting me uploading them to various family WhatsApp groups as well as Dropbox so a big thumbs up.

FOOD & DRINK

BREAKFAST

After a really good nights sleep I was looking forward to breakfast in the impressive glass atrium that dominates the front of the hotel.

It was so nice to have the sun on your back whilst waiting for your breakfast.

I chose the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon whilst my wife had the Florentine royale.

Both were served quickly and tastied pretty damn good with no complaints.

Whilst the continental breakfast did earn extra brownie points from me for having my local jam (Wilko & Sons) on the table the the rest was a little lame with only 1 cheese and 1 meat available to choose from.

DINNER

After a long day we managed to get back just in time to get a order in before the kitchen closed at 9PM

I had Venison sausages and mash with gravy whilst my wife had burger and chips with onion rings.

It was good quality pub grub.

The only dissapointment was not being able to order dessert as the kitchen had closed.

TRAVEL

Whilst it did take us a couple of hours drive from Colchester to Twickenham it was super easy to find using Apple Maps on my iPhone.

It took us straight to the entrance of the car park.

Car parking is under the hotel and has a secure barrier that you need a code to get out of and has CCTV.

The car park is free to guests.

The hotel is also a short 5 minute walk away from Strawberry Hill train station for those wanting to use public transport.

WEATHER

We lucked out on another great weekend and caught the begining for what is hopefully going to be the start of the great British summer! We even managed a stroll around Kew Gardens on the way back as it is only 10 minutes drive away.

CONCLUSION

I am probably being a little harsh on the room furniture and but if the walls were repainted I would give this a solid 9/10.

At £100 a night it offers fantastic value for money and the food in restaurant is of a good pub standard.

I would recommend the Alexander Pope hotel to anyone.
