De Vere Beaumont Estate Hotel Review
I was asked to become Godfather to my beautiful niece Rose.
The Christening was taking place in Cobham and we had planned to drive down on the day.
Last minute we decided the day before to book a hotel so we didn’t have to get up as early or have to worry about getting stuck in traffic.
I think it would of been frowned upon if the Godfather had turned up late!
We found the De Vere Beaumont Estate hotel in Google when searching for hotels in Surrey and Berkshire.
FAMILY ROOM
The family room is clean, modern and loads of space.
I suspect we had one of the recently refurbished rooms.
We had a king size bed, double sofa bed and a desk.
The bed was comfy but was essentially two big single beds pushed together.
Not uncommon in hotels but their wasn’t a mattress topper so you could feel the dip in the middle of the 2 beds pushed together.
We folded up the sofa bed as it wasn’t needed.
The room did back on to the beautiful grounds of the Beaumont Estate and you could open the double doors to explore the grounds.
It had the standard stuff you expect in a room with a kettle, cupboard to hang your clothes, good sized TV on the wall, etc.
What the room really lacked was air conditioning.
However, it did have a portable fan but it did make sleeping difficult due to the heat.
BATHROOM
Considering the size of the room the bathroom was quite small.
It was modern, clean and up to date but at 6 foot I would not of fitted in that bath…
…I think my wife at 5 foot 1 would of struggled to get in the bath!
Shower was fine and the bath would be OK for the kids but could be made bigger for more space.
WIFI
Free wi-fi is provided but the only place I was able to get signal was near the hotel reception.
The hotel grounds are so big so it is little wonder the wi-fi is intermittent.
I was able to to get 4G on my phone throughout the hotel though.
FOOD & DRINK
BREAKFAST
I’m not going to lie this was probably one of worst breakfast experiences ever!
I know this is a bold statement.
It wasn’t that the food was particular bad. It certainly wasn’t brilliant either.
Having breakfast in a massive room with what felt like 1000 people most of whom were hungover from the previous nights wedding or party the hotel was hosting and families with young children running around they were high on e numbers is my kind of nightmare.
It is a mass breakfast buffet with plenty to choose from but with that sort of volume of people it was never going to be an amazing breakfast were used to in the normal boutqiue hotels we stay in.
Slighty greasy and cheap ingredients but can’t complain considering the price of the room included breakfast.
I was expecting better considering the claims of showcasing the very best of British food & suppliers according to their website.
We quickly left!
DINNER
As we had booked last minute and arrived late afternoon we had not made a reservation for the 1705 Restaurant at the Beaumont Estate.
We tried to get a table by turning up when the restaurant opened at 6pm but they were fully booked.
So we had dinner from the smaller menu at the 1705 Bar which adjoins the restaurant.
I had the burger and my wife had the chicken burger.
They were great tasty burgers and well presented but they didn’t warrant the price.
For 1 burger with chunky chips, 1 chicken burger with chunky chips, 1 J2O drink and 1 soda and lime drink it cost £39.10
Because of the lackluster service and prices we decided to drive to the local Marks & Spencer’s BP garage to get a ice cream.
TRAVEL
We traveled by car from Colchester in Essex and it took us just over 2 hours to get there.
Upon arriving, you drive down the estate driveway and whilst there is plenty of parking we found it hard to find a car space as we had arrived late afternoon.
The De Vere is close to many tourist attractions like Legoland, Windsor Castle and Windsor Race Course.
WEATHER
We were really lucky with the weather and in the middle of the UK heatwave.
This made the grounds of the Beaumont Estate a pleasure to walk around and a great way to top up on our tan!
Your find plenty of sitting and if you take a blanket their is plenty of space to soak up the sun.
BOOKING
We booked direct last minute via the hotel website and paid £107 for a family room including breakfast.
Booking process was easy and their are options to include a day pass to Legoland with your booking.
Try booking through booking.com for a better rate.
CONCLUSION
The De Vere Beaumont Estate hotel has some really great features and I can see why it is popular amongst families and for weddings.
The family room was great value and I didn’t mind the poor breakfast experience because I had not paid that much for the room.
However, if I had paid the higher prices for the Deluxe room or Junior Suite that we wanted but had sold out I would of been slightly peeved.
It is a well presented hotel with lovely grounds but your sharing the hotel with the several weddings and parties going on in the hotel.
The food in the 1705 Restaurant & Bar is good but over priced and the buffet restaurant is can only be described as carnage.
THINGS TO CONSIDER
- The rooms are great value and plenty of space for the kids but the food is over priced.
- Pay for your food and drink as you go rather than adding it to your room bill so you can use the express checkout. The que at check out at reception was HUGE.
- Very little service and staff were over run.
